Four Passages on the Deity of Jesus

I listened to Dr. James White speak about Jehovah’s Witnesses (part 1, part 2). He talked about four great verses that undeniably speak to the divinity of Jesus Christ and how the New World Translation mangles these verses to conform to the Watchtower’s heretical views. I’ll list the verses below and let you follow the link above if you’re interested in Dr. White’s explanation. (The following verses are from the English Standard Version)

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:15-16)

The New World Translation inserts the word “other” (as in: “For by him all [other] things were created…”) since the Watchtower teaches that Jesus is a created being.

For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily. (Colossians 2:9)

Dr. White explains that the word for “deity” in Col. 2:9 means “the stuff that makes God God.”

…waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… (Titus 2:13)

Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ… (2 Peter 1:1)

The  last two verses are interesting because Dr. White does a great job explaining why those are correct renderings of the Greek. Compare 2 Peter 1:1 with 2 Peter 1:11 and notice the same structure.

Anyways, it is a great lecture and explanation for the non-Greek student. Obviously, there are numerous other verses that speak to Jesus’ divinity, but this is a good snippet and is not intended to be exhaustive.
